Raheem Sterling’s miss against Scotland

England breezed to a 3-0 victory against Scotland at Wembley on Friday night.

Goals – all headers – from Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Gary Cahill gave the Three Lions three points in the World Cup 2018 qualifier.

But one of the big talking points from the match was Raheem Sterling’s incredible miss in the second half.

The £50million Manchester City winger arrived at the back post to meet Jordan Henderson’s superb ball in but got his finish all wrong and side-footed over the bar.

TV Commentator Glenn Hoddle argued it was a more difficult chance than it appeared, while thousands of footy fans got straight on Twitter to ridicule the former Liverpool fan.

Here’s the chance so make up your own mind.

The win cemented England’s place at the top of Group F and strengthened Gareth Southgate’s claim to the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

Former England midfielder Jermaine Jenas told BBC Radio 5 Live: “For England there is a lot to work on but a lot to be proud of.

“It was a feisty fixture and Gareth Southgate can say his players handled the situation very well.

“Once the game settled down England did get control. It was not as fluent as we want to be but they got the job done.

“There were a couple of stand outs. Sterling, both full-backs and Lallana. Gareth Southgate will be delighted with night’s work.”
