Bloody Chelsea. Imagine how exciting the Premier League title would be if they weren’t around, ruining it for everyone with their consistence excellence.
The Blues, in classic Jose Mourinho style, took advantage of everyone else dropping points at various stages of the season and now the championship is theirs to lose.
Louis van Gaal certainly believes Manchester United would have been closer to the leaders if not for their poor start to the season.
After 10 league matches, United had won only three and were 10th in the table.
Since then, United have won 16 of the 23 fixtures and they have not been out of the top four since November 22, when they beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates.
Dutch coach Van Gaal, who took over in the summer, told MUTV: “We had a very bad start. If we’d started well, we could have been the champions.”
It’s safe to a assume, then, that Van Gaal expects United to be in the title hunt next season.
Is he right? Luckily, bookies are already offering odds on the outright winner next season.
Chelsea are the favourites at 11/8 ahed of Manchester City at 3/1. United are third favourites at 9/2 while Arsenal are a generous-looking 7/1. Liverpool are 8/1, while Tottenham are available 50s.
